A word about volunteers. Ours is a large Club, with nearly 300 members. Things just don’t happen in the Club — someone is behind every event and activity. While the Executive takes a leadership role in administering the Club, everyone is encouraged to pitch in and help out in whatever way he or she can. This can take many forms, from playing music during some of the sessions, to helping in fund-raising or in the several events hosted by the Club during the year.
There is currently one vacancies on the Executive: Publicity. Please consider helping to provide leadership to your Club as an Executive member (see “Board of Directors)”
Program Representatives. We would like to have a parent representative for each of the Programs (CanSkate 1 and 2, CanPower, Intermediates, Senior B, Senior A, Synchro and Adults) in our Club, who would help to facilitate communication between the Executive, arrange for music players during that session, and convey any issues to the Program Director and thence to the Executive.
Bingo Helpers: Our largest fundraising activity is periodic Bingos, held at Bingo Country at the corner of Forest Lee Road and old Highway 17. Our Club is one of many organizations that raises money by selling the bingo cards. We need four helpers at each event. No experience is necessary, as there will always be an experienced person from the Club present.
Listed below are the Bingo’s we have between now and December 31st as well as the times. Typically if you are volunteering we need you to show up 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the start of the Bingo for set up.
- Sunday, September 18th Evening Bingo (6:45 start, 5:30 arrival)
- Sunday, October 16th Evening Bingo (6:45 start , 5:30 arrival)
- Friday, November 4th Midnight Bingo (12:30 start, 11:15 arrival)
- Friday, December 9th Late Night Bingo (9:45 start, 8:30 arrival)
- Thursday, December 29th Evening Bingo (6:45 start, 5:30 arrival)
If you are willing to help in any of these, or in taking responsibility for the Bingos please contact Rob Desjardins.
Valley InterClub. This year the Petawawa Skating Club will be hosting the Valley InterClub – a fun competition in February involving all 7 Clubs in Skate Canada Region 6. We will need a lot of help in hosting InterClub. More details will be provided during the year. If you would like to help out, please contact our InterClub Chair (Janet Glen).
Food preparation. One of our fundraising activities will be periodic bake-sales -- can you contribute a pie, cookies or muffins? Similarly we will need lots of help in Hospitality for InterClub, preparing and serving food for the volunteers and officials.
Special Events, such as Xmas party, Xmas float, Year-end Banquet and Party, Ice Show
Your help is needed, and is most welcome! Please contact one of the Executive members to discuss volunteer opportunities.
