Whether you are new to the Petawawa Skating Club, or a returning member,

WELCOME!

Our Club strives to ensure that skaters of all ages and abilities achieve their skating goals in a safe, positive environment.  The coaches, Club Executive, and many volunteers have the best interests of our skaters as their sole motivation.

Many of the skills that our children develop through the pursuit of skating are life skills that will serve them well in any endeavour:  dedication, hard work, perseverance, sportsmanship, friendship, mutual respect and support, and performing in public.  We are proud of the positive, supportive environment in our Club.

The Petawawa Skating Club is a registered club of Skate Canada.  This ensures that the programs offered, the skills developed, and the instruction provided to our skaters all meet a specified standard that is consistent across Canada.  All of our coaches are trained / certified by Skate Canada through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), and our coaches in turn train our amateur volunteer “Program Assistants” to assist on the ice with instruction for our CanPowerSkate and CanSkate programs.  All coaches hold a valid First Aid certificate.

The Club develops skaters of all ages and abilities, from recreational to competitive skaters, youngsters to adults.  Our Club also encourages and supports the development of volunteers such as Club Executive members and Skate Canada officials (judges and data specialists).  Our Club  has nearly 300 registered members.  Our members come from CFB Petawawa, and the towns of Petawawa, Laurentian Hills, Deep River, the city of Pembroke and the surrounding area.  Our Club offers four skating sessions:  Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.  In 2010/11, the Summer program ran two days per week during the month of August; the Fall session will run for about one month starting September 7; the main Winter session will run from October 12 to mid-March; and the Spring session is planned from March 29 to May 15.  Our “off-season” Fall, Spring and Summer sessions draw many skaters from the other area clubs.

Our Club programs make use of both of the arena facilities in Petawawa - the Town of Petawawa Civic Centre and the double ice pad at the CFB Petawawa Silver Dart Arena, which features an NHL-size ice pad.
